Death From Above 1979 Are Returning With A New Album, The Physical World

Over a decade after setting fire to what ‘drum and bass’ meant, Canadian dance-punk duo Death From Above 1979 will release a followup to their 2004 debut album, You’re A Woman, I’m A Machine. The newie, The Physical World, was produced by Dave Sardy (The Walkmen, Soulwax, Oasis) and is scheduled for release in September via Last Gang Records.

Speaking with NME, vocalist/drummer Sebastien Grainger said the band’s fans played an important role in influencing their decision: “No matter what Jesse and I do, on whatever scale of success it’s sat on, there’s always some kind of reference to Death From Above. It’s only frustrating because it’s so lazy. So we’re putting out a Death From Above record and if the press is like, ‘It’s not what we expected,’ or however they react to it, it’s like, ‘Well, you’ve been fucking asking for it.’”

And here’s an earlier statement from Last Gang’s Chris Taylor: “We can confirm DFA1979 is in the studio making an album set for fall release. Hell has frozen over, dogs and cats living together, mass hysteria….throw in Dave Sardy and it is a meeting of truly biblical proportions.”

Welcome back.

Welcome back.
