The first act has been announced for this year’s Dark Mofo festival, folks, and it’s a bloody big one for stoner metal fans.
UK doom metal lords, Electric Wizard, will be playing the festival in June, which will be their first Australian show in 13 long years. Unfortunately, it’ll be an exclusive performance for Dark Mofo, so don’t expect any other shows to pop up around that time.
The Tasmanian festival – which has been running since 2013 – is a celebration of the darkness of the winter solstice. It’s essentially a winter version of the MONA FOMA festival and is often accompanied by controversial art, performances, and heavy music. Dark Mofo will run between the 15th and 24th of June, with Electric Wizard playing on the 21st.
The band released their ninth album, Wizard Bloody Wizard, last year, with this tour coming off the back of that album. They formed in 1993 and released what many would consider their best work – Dopethrone – in 2000.
If you want my opinion, their best song is easily Barbarian.
The show itself will take place in Hobart‘s Odeon Theatre. You can sign up for pre-sale tickets via the offical Dark Mofo website.
No other acts have been announced just yet, but you can probably expect to hear more soon.
