The young Aussie musician has now spent 16 weeks at the top of the chart with her breakthrough song, breaking a record previously held by Ed Sheeran.

His song ‘Shape Of You‘ spent 15 non-consecutive weeks in the number one spot when it was released back in 2017.

‘Dance Monkey’ is the first Australian song to hold the record for the longest time at number one since the ARIA charts launched in 1983, making this success all the more significant.

Tones And I, otherwise known as Toni Watson, is currently on a sold out tour of the US and the UK, where she recently went platinum.

She made a statement on this latest chart success, saying:

“Thank you so much Australia for the love and support around my career and single Dance Monkey. It’s been a crazy ride watching what this song has done but now to break the Aussie record is just a huge achievement! An Aussie now holds the Aussie ARIA chart record!”

ARIA CEO Dan Rosen said:

“This is a truly historic achievement. I am so incredibly thrilled that an Australian artist now holds the record for the longest running Number One song in ARIA Chart history. From busking a year ago to shattering chart records, this is just the start for Tones And I.”

Congratulations on this massive success!
