Brisbane’s Metal Mecca Crowbar Is Taking Over Sydney’s Bald Faced Stag

Bless the heavy music gods and goddesses, because the team from Brisbane‘s Crowbar is officially expanding to Sydney, and are going to call the Bald Faced Stag home.

After providing a stage to bands like The Black Dahlia MurderCamp CopeDeafheavenTitle Fight, and hundreds of other big names in gritty, grimy heavy music for the last six years, Crowbar is finally taking a piece of the church to Leichhardt, bringing the dark mass to Sydney’s inner west.

The Crowbar team is determined to curate the space into a thriving heavy music venue and dive bar (hell yes PLEASE), carrying on the legacy that Crowbar holds in the Aussie music community – a place where loud music, good beer, art and community come together. And god knows that we need to hang onto spaces where good punk/metal/hardcore thrives, especially after the deep-clean and sanitisation of the Annandale Hotel and the closure of neighbouring DIY space, Blackwire Records.

Crowbar Sydney will exist in the Stag’s space for the next five years, with the team hoping for a lease extension instead of the whispered plans of redeveloping the live venue into a co-living space in the future.

The team are taking bookings now for December, which is when they’re hoping to fling the doors open to Sydney’s first incarnation of the iconic venue.
