The Commercial Radio Hottest 100 Got Announced & Some Ginger Kid Dominates It

While you’re all feverishly whittling your Triple J Hottest 100 longlists down to an agonisingly selected 10 tunes, the rest of the radio industry in Australia just released its own list of 100 biggest tracks for the year and, would you even believe, it’s been a banner year for Ed Sheeran. Who would’ve guessed?

The Commercial Radio Hottest 100 list has been released by The Music Network, crunching chart performance and airplay numbers across the major radio networks to put together a list of 2017’s 100 biggest commercial tracks.

The list takes playlist and streaming data from a number of different sources – namely, companies like KIIS FMTriple MNovaHit NetworkTriple J, and streaming services SpotifyShazam, and iTunes, as well as chart performance data, and spits out the tunes that found their way onto Australian airwaves the most frequently in the year of our good lord 2017.

While he doesn’t have the top spot overall, Sheeran’s year is something to behold, with three of the ten biggest songs this year belonging to him. Castle on the Hill and Shape of You hold spots 2 and 3 respectively, while the ever-present Galway Girl comes in at number 10 on the list.

As for the top spot overall, that dubious honour belongs to The Chainsmokers and Coldplay for their collab hit Something Just Like This, which spent a fairly remarkable seven weeks at the top of the charts, and eleven weeks overall in the top three.

Elsewhere in the top ten, Bruno Mars‘ smooth as silk That’s What I Like snared 4th spot overall, the blessed Lorde finds her way to #5 with her massive banger Green Lightand now-No Directioner Niall Horan took out the #9 spot for his hit Slow Hands.

Cop the full Commercial Radio Hottest 100 list below, and prepare to argue feverishly to your heart’s content.
