Coachella Rejected Kate Bush’s 1st Ever US Show Bc People “Wouldn’t Get It”

Kate Bush – who is a complete genius – very rarely performs and has never actually performed in the United States. Apparently, her very first US show was absolutely on the table for Coachella, but the festival curator shot it down on the grounds that nobody would get it.

who would not understand this
A New Yorker profile on festival curator and Goldenvoice CEO Paul Tollett reveals that he was the one to turn down that fairly historic opportunity. As Marc Geiger, the head of music at the William Morris Endeavour agency, says:
I’ll say, ‘Kate Bush!’ And [Tollet’ll] go, ‘No!,’ and we’ll talk through it. I’ll say, ‘She’s never played here, and she just did 30 shows in the UK for the first time since the late seventies. You gotta do it! Have to!’ ‘No! No one is going to understand it’.
Bush played 30 sold out shows in the UK last year, marking her very first since the late seventies. She’s also released 25 Top 40 UK singles and is widely cited by basically any pop artist with even a degree of musical and personal eccentricity as a massive influence.
I reckon she’d probably go hard at Coachella. Just one bloke’s take.
