If you haven’t got around Scottish synth-pop bebes CHVRCHES yet (I assume because you’ve just emerged from a coma), now’s the time to do it on the sly. They’ve just boggled Australia’s collective mind with the most gorge cover of Kendrick Lamar‘s ‘LOVE.‘
And y’know, I gotta say, I didn’t have high hopes for this one. Nothing against CHVRCHES, but it sure seems like we reached saturation point of softly-sung indie gals covering hip-hop and R&B at leat 18 months ago.
But this is a shimmery, understated, 80s-synth doozy. Lauren Mayberry‘s delicate vox front and centre? Check. Glimmering pads? Check. Back and forth vocals? Ooooh check. A build guaranteed to raise goosebumps? CHECK.
For all of us missing out on Splendour, this weekend just got a bit of its shine back. (For those of us who are AT Splendour and who will get to see both CHVRCHES AND Kendrick in person… shut up.) Either way, cop a listen of this beauty, and end your week right.
