‘Mamma Mia’ Star Cher Is Now Making An Entire Album Of ABBA Covers

Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again hasn’t even been released in cinemas yet, and already the buzz is at peak levels thanks to pre-screenings and media/fans who are going nuts for it.

One particular moment that has people talking is Cher‘s performance of iconic ABBA hit ‘Fernando‘, which my Editor says was met with APPLAUSE in her screening this week.

It seems all that ABBA singing got Cher worked up musically, because she’s announced an entire album of ABBA tunes is coming our way – officially.

“After I did ‘Fernando,’ I thought it would really be fun to do an album of ABBA songs, so I did!” she told Today‘s Kathie Lee Gifford.

Don’t expect the Cher album to sound like ABBA 2.0, though. She’s taking the tunes and doing them her way.

“It’s not what you think of when you think ABBA, ‘cause I did it in a different way.”

Apparently Cher got involved in the sequel because of a deep love of the musical on Broadway.

“I was a huge fan. I saw the musical on Broadway three times and was dancing in the aisles with everybody. And Ron Meyer — who was my agent, who’s the head of Universal — he called me up and said, ‘You’re doing Mamma Mia!‘ and hung up,” she said.

So that explains the entire album, I guess? CAN. NOT. WAIT.

No word on when this album will grace our ears, but we hope it’s real soon since she’s already recorded it.
