Calvin Harris’ New ‘My Way’ Video Is A Not-So-Subtle Swipe At Taylor Swift

Calvin Harris has very much denied that his new breakup banger ‘My Way‘ is about his ex Taylor Swift, and he’ll probably deny that the song’s newly-released video is a direct swipe at said ex, but still, here we find ourselves.
There are a few visual elements that seem to riff directly on scenes from past Taylor Swift clips, like a woman standing atop a horse (‘Blank Space‘) and a couple sitting awkwardly at either end of a dining table (‘We Are Never Getting Back Together‘).
There’s also the polka dot dress (Tay-Tay loves her some goddamn polka dots), the black dominatrix outfit (‘Bad Blood‘) and the white leather ensemble (also ‘Bad Blood’), and there are probably others that we and Twitter have yet to pick up on.
It’s the overall premise of the video – a man re-living a past relationship with a too-perfect girlfriend via a glitchy virtual reality headset – that seems to be the biggest thematic giveaway.
Calvin’s virtual ex is mean and cold and robotic, which, yeah, seems like it might be just a little dig at Taylor’s reputation for being ruthlessly in control of her PR and the media narrative that surrounds her.
Taylor may or may not have known this was coming, but either way, she still managed to get in first and snatch all the prime gossip blog real estate today by possibly maybe being in a relationship with Drake
Somewhere in Los Angeles (or Las Vegas or Dumfries or wherever he’s hanging out right now), Calvin Harris is screaming into a pillow. Enjoy:
Hands up if you miss the old Calvin Harris just a little bit:
