Boy & Bear’s Lollapalooza Photo Diary

After taking us on a visual journey though their 2011 Splendour in the Grass experience, the snap-happy chaps from Boy & Bear serve up a photo diary direct from Lollapalooza. Way more American flags and limos in this one.

Killian looking relaxed with a sneaky white wine at Sydney airport before we jumped on our flight to LAX (it was before midday…).

Dave and Killian trying (in vain) to get their guitars to sound in tune together before an acoustic performance we did at Lollapalooza.

Some free vodka and whipped cream cupcakes were being handed out by pretty ladies in the VIP lounge.

The main stage at Lollapalooza when My Morning Jacket were playing – check out the Chicago skyline in the background!

Interest groups trying to get a message across to the kids leaving the festival on the Saturday night. I felt a little sorry for this guy; I don’t think people were being very nice to him, but the sign seemed a little over the top.

Why don’t we have Australian flags on big industrial size dumpsters at home?

Jake, Tim & Dave doing a radio interview for Slacker (yep, that’s what it was called!).

Volunteers trying to keep the ground in the media tent dry enough for people to walk on – it stormed on and off throughout the weekend.

Road running all the way down the middle of the festival to the main stage at the far end – Foo Fighters tour trucks in the foreground just for a bit of context.

Tim working his way through a Bud light backstage while Dave warms his voice up for the show.

Boy & Bear rolling in style (with an entourage) out to dinner after the show – okay, so we did bargain it down to the price of three taxis, but we did still get a limo to dinner…

Backstage security at our stage enjoying the afternoon sunshine – it was short-lived though, as it completely poured as soon as we stopped playing.

Tim and Jake getting into the zone (wherever that is!) right before our set.

Chicago’s version of SMFS (shirtless man at festival syndrome) – to be fair though, it was summer in the US and very hot!

A 2011 family video being filmed near the bar at mainstage with Noah and the Whale providing the soundtrack.

Food stalls and people as far as the eye (and camera!) can see…nice bit of the Chicago skyline in the background.

We capped off our time in Chicago by doing our best to eat our bodyweights’ worth of some of Chicago’s finest deep dish pizza; it was Chicago 1 – Boy & Bear 0.

After Lolla, we flew to New York – Killian’s gear (pedal board in this instance) has a way of arriving upside down at baggage claim, regardless of, or maybe because of, the number of “fragile” and “this side up” stickers he puts on it.

In New York, we managed to squeeze in a short set at the Summer Stage of Central Park…it was pretty crazy to be able to look out at the New York skyline whilst playing a show.
