Björk Says Her Next Release Is Her ‘Tinder Album’ & We Are Swiping Right

The ageless space creature of light and music known as Björk is blessing us with another album, and it has a very 2017 inspiration.

In case you forgot, the Icelandic wizardess’s last album, Vulnicura, released in 2015, was a breakup album. It detailed Björk’s grief at the end of her relationship with artist Matthew Barney, and was a heartbreaking portrait of an artist at both the height of her powers and her lowest emotional ebb.

Her newie, though, is about something quite different. Björk has described the as-yet unnamed project as her “Tinder album“.

What the hell does that mean, you ask? In her own words to Dazed:

This is like my Tinder album. It’s about that search (for utopia) – and about being in love. Spending time with a person you enjoy on every level is obviously utopia, you know? I mean, it’s real. It’s when the dream becomes real.

I set myself up with the last album being a heartbreak album, so everyone’s gonna be like, ‘Are you married?’ with this one. But… it’s too fragile still. I think, if I could, I’d just say this is my dating album. Let’s just leave it there.

Can you imagine encountering Björk on fucken Tinder?

Vox has done us a solid and mocked up some fairly accurate artist’s impressions of what the alien queen’s Tinder profile might look like:

Collaborator Andrew Thomas Huang has described the record as sounding “really future-facing“, which, honestly, is not a massive surprise, coming from one of the most innovative artists of recent memory. Here’s hoping she actually references Tinder – describing it as a utopia has really got us thinking.
