Big Day Out Organisers Expand Empire With NZ Version Of ‘Austin City Limits’

The festival promotors behind Big Day Out and Lollapalooza, CRS Presents and C3 Presents, announced this morning that a brand-spankin’ new music festival will soon be heading to New Zealand. Please welcome: Auckland City Limits.

Although the new festival was inspired by its Texan namesake Austin City Limits (which is held over two weekends), the NZ festival will be a one-day event at Western Springs Park and Stadium, and will showcase 40 musical acts, local art, fashion, food, a kids’ zone, and a forum for panel discussions and keynotes.
Auckland City Limits was one of the events that applied for the Auckland Tourism, Events & Economic Development’s (ATEED) 2015/16 sponsorship round, and will now also be supported by Regional Facilities Auckland.
There’s no word yet on whether the festival is a ‘replacement’ for Big Day Out. Despite the iconic festival promising to return to New Zealand, former promotor AJ Maddah has publicly stated that there is “no guarantee it will ever come back”
Auckland City Limits is set for March 2016 – watch this space.
