Big Day Out Has Officially Been Cancelled For 2015

The 2015 iteration of the Big Day Out has been cancelled following developments this week that Soundwave Festival founder AJ Maddah had cut ties with the event less than a year after buying out founding partner Ken West’s half of the business, leaving it 100% owned by American promotions company C3 Presents, who also run the U.S. festival, Lollapalooza

Documents obtained by Music Feeds this week indicate that as of the 4th of June, ownership of Maddah’s entire stake in the company was transferred across to its offshore events partner.

And it’s only getting worse with C3 announcing today that the iconic Australian music festival will be postponed through 2015 in each of its six major locations across Australia and New Zealand: Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Gold Coast, and Auckland.

“C3 Presents is proud to own Big Day Out, one of the most iconic and established festival brands in the world. While we intend to bring back the festival in future years, we can confirm there will not be a Big Day Out in 2015,” a statement read. “We love working on BDO and are excited about the future.”

More to come.
