Behind The Scenes: Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ Nick Zinner Shoots Lee

Last time we spoke with Yeah Yeah Yeahs guitarist Nick Zinner he described his approach to image-making like one might keep a diary: “I’m basically trying to capture and remember the small things that come in and out of my life.”

Informed by “old school guys like William Klein and Henri Cartier-Bresson, and more recent ones like Terry Richardson and Ryan Mcginley Zinner’s work is best known via crowd-centric anthologies, I Hope You Are All Happy Now and Please Take Me Off The Guest List. But team Yeah Yeah Yeahs aren’t the only music fans to notice Zinner’s ability to make the mundane magical. Earlier this year Lee enlisted Zinner to shoot their Winter 11 campaign (his first ever) in support of two rock-inspired denim styles, Swagger and Jetts. He struggled with the task at first but eventually chose to document a wild night out in Manhattan’s East Village. Or an approximation of a wild night out in Manhattan’s East Village, something Zinner understands intimately. Check out some behind-the-scenes snaps below and stay tuned for a full interview with Nick in the coming days.

Jetts and Swagger jeans hit Lee flagship stores in Sydney and Melbourne, as well as David Jones and independent retailers nationally in April 2011.
