Behind The Scenes At The AMP Awards

The dudes at Coopers did a great job filming the process of the 2011 AMP Awards from the long-list through to the winner, which is a must-see for any Australian music fans. Featuring interviews with judges like Deborah Conway and Melbourne music journalist Clem Bastow as well as all nine nominated artists from the 2011 short list, The Australian Music Prize series will teach you interesting things like how much Coopers Richard In Your Mind drink, how much effort goes into making the judging fair and even and how the eventual short list is drawn up (hint: it involves locking a whole lotta judges in a room until they make a decision). You can read more on how that happens in our interview with AMP Founder Scott Murphy from last year.

Our favourite quote comes from Dan Kelly, who upon hearing of his nomination, says that if he won “I’d be off to a Pacific Island for like, a whole year. Just painting, drinking coconut water..tell the natives ‘I won a fucking AMP award.’” So buckle in and watch the series we like to call What The ARIAs Should Be.
