Battles To Immortalise Australian Radio Presenters In Song

You really do get out what you put in.

Math-rock band Battles announced the tracklisting for Gloss Drop, their first album in four years on Friday, with a very special shout out to two of Sydney’s finest local broadcasters. Dedicated hosts of Sydney community radio station FBi’s Arvos Victoria ‘Sweetie’ Zamora and Thom ‘Shag’ McMullen have received an unlikely boost by way of having a track on the record named after them.

After the departure of multi-instrumentalist frontman Tyondai Braxton last year, Battles have become a trio and their new album will showcase a bunch of guest vocalists. ‘Sweetie And Shag’ will feature the effortlessly cool stylings of Blonde Redhead‘s Kazu Makino.

Battles have had a longstanding love-in with FBi. Their last appearance in Australia was for the FBi night at Beck’s Bar during 2009’s Sydney Festival. We can’t wait to hear what the track sounds like, and whether it will document Sweetie’s pathological obsession with all things Ken Done.
