Avalanches, Grouplove, & All The Falls Fest Sideshows To Cop Tix For ASAP

It’s been a few weeks since the 2016 Falls Festival line-up burst into the world, so you’re probably just on the cusp of recovering from that overload of hype.

Still, the powers that be don’t care if you’re capable of accepting more excellent news RN, and they’ve just dished out sideshow deets as proof.
If you’re keen to double-stack your musical outings over the new year – or, if you missed out on tix to the Lorne and Byron Bay dates, or simply can’t make it to Marion Bay nor Fremantle – we reckon you’ll be chuffed to get around these sideshows:
THE AVALANCHES

Yessir, after dropping off the face of the planet for a solid sixteen years, the enigmatic Aussie beat-wizards are making up for their absence with a slew of massive appearances.

They’ll be sharing the stage with Grandmaster Flash – who’s been busy imparting his hip-hop wisdom for the bombastic The Get Down – and Bad//Dreems – who have presumably been busy sharing their wisdom on how to goddamn party.

  • Tuesday, 3 January / Melbourne Town Hall / Melbourne / With Grandmaster Flash
  • Thursday, 5 January / Enmore Theatre / Sydney / With Grandmaster Flash
  • Saturday, 7 January / Thebarton Theatre / Adelaide / With Bad//Dreems

ALUNAGEORGE

Slinkiest vocals in the goddamn game, right here. If you like your pop deliciously steeped in gooey electronica and slick r’n’b, wrap your ears around these English maestros when they deliver a bonus performance in Melbourne.
  • Friday, January 6 / The Corner / Melbourne

    Tix via Secret Sounds.

MODERN BASEBALL

Grab your mates and yell about your feelings, ’cause Modern Baseball, champions of emotive punk rawk, are gracing us all with a coupla spare sideshows.
Like you needed even more reason to attend, Camp Cope will be there teachin’ the Philadelphia act how the fuck we do Down Under. What a bloody dream.
  • Wednesday, January 4 / Metro Theatre / Sydney / With Camp Cope (Licensed / All Ages)
  • Friday, January 6 / 170 Russell / Melbourne / With Camp Cope (18+, soz young guns)

JAMIE T

You’re probably well aware of this by now, but Jamie T is what happens when you instil the past 50 years of British music into one unfairly talented bloke. Good for him, great for listeners, bad for our hopes of being the unexpected vanguard of vintage British tuneage.

  • Wednesday, January 4 / Enmore Theatre / Sydney
  • Thursday, 5 January / Croxton Bandroom / Melbourne

GROUPLOVE
For a couple of years, we were a lil’ concerned about the lack of a group capable of mashing pop tunes with barnstorming bloody rock. Then, Grouplove came lumbering into our lives, and now they’re popping in for a few sideshows, too. Here’s hoping they drop a sneaky version of their BoJack Horseman track, the G.O.A.T credits tune.

Oh, and if that genre-mashin’ act isn’t quite enough for you, electro-shoegaze-trip-hop lords Phantogram are popping in for Grouplove’s Sydney show. Beaut.

  • Tuesday, 3 January / Enmore Theatre / Sydney / With Phantogram
  • Thursday, 6 January / Melbourne Town Hall / Melbourne

CATFISH AND THE BOTTLEMEN
Damn, need more crunchy British rock? These blokes, and their absolutely brilliant band name, will also be doling out their overdriven riffs around the shop.
  • Tuesday, 3 January / 170 Russell / Melbourne
  • Friday, 6 January / Metro Theatre / Sydney

How many more slinky pop beats can you handle? If the answer is “more” – and, yes, the answer to that question is always “more” – Danish queen will be here to encourage rampant boogs to her sparkling tunes.
  • Tuesday, 3 January / Metro Theatre / Sydney
  • Thursday, 5 January / 170 Russell / Melbourne

RY X

Just quietly, we are so thoroughly enjoying the marriage of folk and ethereal swells that’s become so prevalent of late. RY X is a big, biiig reason for that. Prep ya falsettos, folks.

  • Friday, 6 January / Newtown Social Club / Sydney
  • Saturday, 7 January / Northcote Social Club / Melbourne

SHURA

The best thing about Shura is how nostalgic her songs are, which is nice, ’cause they’re simultaneously razor-sharp pop tunes available for your listening pleasure RIGHT NOW. And, well, in January, when she chucks a sideshow in Melbs.

  • Wednesday, 4 January / Northcote Social Club / Melbourne

LEMAITRE

Ugh, futurebass is just the gift that keeps on giving, and soulful cat Lemaitre has deemed it fit to slink into your eardrums with a coupla sneaky sideshows too.

  • Wednesday, 4 January / Oxford Art Factory / Sydney
  • Friday, 6 January / Howler / Melbourne
