Australia’s Representative At Eurovision 2015 Is An Australian Idol

In what will surely come to be known as an historic moment for our country, at a press conference staged at the Sydney Opera House this morning local custodians of kitsch Julia Zemiro and Sam Pang announced that SBS has chosen Australian Idol alumni Guy Sebastian to represent Australia as a wildcard entry in the 60th annual Eurovision Song Contest, to be held this May in Vienna.
Congratulations, Guy Sebastian. Congratulations, everyone.
After four years of negotiations and one phenomenal halftime appearance by Jessica Mauboy at last year’s contest, Australia will now be allowed to vote in both Semi-Finals, as well as the Grand Final.
Speaking to his choice of song (which sadly can’t be a previously released single, like ‘All I Want Is U’), Sebastian – who has just finished a national tour and once represented Australia in the first and last World Idol – said:
“I want it to be epic. I’m not trying to work around what my next single is going to be. I want it to represent our national well. I want it to be super fun or emotional, or a big ballad that showcases my voice. There are two songs in the running so far.”
Meaning, sadly, his euphoric debut single ‘Angels Brought Me Here’ is out of the running.
