Anna Lunoe’s Guide To The Ultimate Weekend In L.A.

Musical polymath and Stateside transplant Anna Lunoe recently took time out of her busy schedule killing it as a DJ and producer turned vocalist supporting acts like Disclosure and The Weeknd to compile for us a list of her Top 5 haunts at which to spend the ultimate weekend in her adopted town of Los Angeles.

Lunoe, who has this month returned to our pure shores for a national tour as part of the Falls and Southbound festivals, has also today released her brilliant first music video for the insanely hypnotic track ‘Breathe’ directed by Cara Stricker and accompanied by five killer remixes, all of which can be found over at Lunoe’s Beatport

Suffice to say, we want to go to there.
CAFE GRATITUDE
The first thing I do when I get back in LA is get lunch and a milkshake from Café Gratitude. I will sit in traffic for an extra hour on the way home to make this happen. Yes, it’s vegan, sugar and dairy free and but it’s also insanely good. Plus, once I sat next to Alicia Silverstone, and another time James Van Der Beek from Dawson’s Creek.

(Ed. note: Beyoncé and Jay Z ate Hov’s 44th vegan birthday lunch at Café Gratitude, so basically eat there.)

WILL ROGERS STATE PARK
I didn’t realise it before I moved there but California is so beautiful. The outdoor lifestyle is very similar to what we’re used to in Australia and whenever I get the chance I go for hikes (that’s what Americans call bushwalking) on one of the many mountains that surround the city and Will Rogers Park is one of my favourites! Will Rogers was a movie star who bought the land as his own private property and after he died his family donated it to the state. You can see 360° views of the city, the ocean and even down to Malibu.
Address: 1501 Will Rogers State Park Road

Opening Hours: Open daily, including holidays, 8:00am – Sunset.
LOS GLOBOS
One of my favourite places to go out in LA! Super retro neon outfitting, sticky floors, cheap drinks and excellent music. It’s the closest thing I have found to Goodgod.

Address: 3040 Sunset Blvd

Opening Hours: Always open

FROGGY’S IN TOPANGA CANYON

Most my Sundays at home are spent at the markets or hiking around Malibu, followed by salt ‘n pepper squid and burgers at Froggy’s. It’s a hidden gem up in the Topanga Canyon, a cute canyon not far from Venice. In the 50’s that was where a lot of the Western movie lots were (side note: it’s on one of these old abandoned lots in the 70s where Charles Manson took shitloads of LSD and convinced some hippies to kill some people). These days it’s all art fairs and small organic farms. It’s got a Byron vibe but it’s not too built up and busy, which is surprising considering how close it is to everything.

SWEET ROSE ICE CREAM
My perfect end to the ultimate Sunday is ice cream at Sweet Rose in Brentwood on the way home. Okay, it’s not really on the way home but it’s worth sitting in traffic for. It’s the best ice cream I have ever had (sorry Messina), plus they have dairy free options!

Opening Hours: Daily 11:00 – 23:00
