Following the announcement that Tom Ballard would be leaving triple j breakfasts on December 13th to pursue a career in the highly-lucrative field of Sleeping In, co-host and co-ARIA winner Alex Dyson revealed this morning that another stand-up comedian, Matt Okine, will join the show in 2014, thus ending Warrnambool’s iron-vice stranglehold on government-owned breakfast broadcasting.
I’m pretty pumped to be stepping up to join Alex on the breakfast show next year. I’ve been an avid triple j fan since as early as I can remember. I was the guy who waved the Drum flag behind Kieran Perkins during the 1996 Atlanta Olympics medal ceremony.
…OK, that’s a blatant lie, but I DID listen to the breakfast show every single morning on my way to school and uni, and often it was the only thing that made those mornings, (and the thought of another Maths B class) bearable, so I’m hoping I can return the favour to you. And I’m not going to lie: filling Tom’s shoes won’t be easy. The guy is one of the funniest, smartest and most successful people I know and he’s almost 5 years younger than me, which never ceases to make me incredibly jealous.
So, whilst I can’t be Tom, I’m sure I can be not Kyle Sandilands.
2014 is gonna be fully sick as, dudes!
Speak soon.
Werrrd.
