The 2019 Dark Mofo Lineup Is Here & It’s Time To Get Hella Spooky

It’s that time again, my friends, where we pull on our thermals, load up with those little Hot Hands sachets, and venture down to Australia‘s spooky island, Tasmania, for the annual gathering of the spooks – DARK MOFO.

[jwplayer GfoHcP6v]

Ranging from live shows from FKA TwigsJonsiSampa The GreatMallrat, and Sharon Van Etten, to experimental art, the biggest long-table feast that looks like a gathering of an underworld church, the 7th annual Dark Mofo will be taking over the greater Hobart area with its ominous vibes from June 6 – 23.

There’s also the Liminal Soundbath, where punters are encouraged to lie on the floor and let the sounds from a live performance from members of Sigur Rós to wash over them. Sounds like pure bliss tbh.

I experienced Dark Mofo for the first time last year and let me tell you; this is one incredibly special festival. The nights are dark and full of secrets, and I found myself buying beers from a man with a trolley adorned in flowers and fairy lights, drinking whiskey and eating fresh oysters on a boat in Bruny Island, and lining up for a 2am rave cave in an abandoned cinema.

It’s also such a good festival to just buy tickets to literally anything. You might just find yourself in a huge orchestral theatre watching the Tassie Symphony Orchestra performing Baltic hymns for an hour. Or you might end up in a completely immersive room being blown into the back wall by a noise band while being blinded by lights. My advice? Invest in a good-ass pair of earplugs.

On top of all the music performances, there’s some incredible art from all over the world, including Mike ParrJulie Goughs, and a full “latex kink wonderland” from Japanese artist Saeborg.

Seriously, what the fuck. (Image supplied)

There’s a cheeky presale that you can sign up for over HERE, which goes on sale from 6pm on Monday, April 15, and general sale kicks off from 12pm on Tuesday, April 16.

Check out the full music lineup below, and give in to the curiosity – trust me, it’ll be worth it.

C U THERE. (Image: Courtney Fry)

As always, the nude swim is happening the morning after the winter solstice (June 22), and the burning of the Ogoh-Ogoh is happening on the final night, Sunday, June 23 and it’s a demonic swift parrot this year.

See you in the dark, friends.
