15 Y.O. Glastonbury Punter Becomes Cult Hero After Nailing Grime Track Onstage

After a weekend including Stormzy, The Cure, Janelle Monaé, and Tame Impala, the most talked-about act of the 2019 Glastonbury festival was somehow a 15-year-old kid named Alex.

Let’s back up for a moment.

Punters at the legendary UK festival went absolutely berzerk when grime artist Dave asked the audience if anyone was sober enough to rap along to Thiago Silva, his 2016 hit.

Alex Mann, perched on the shoulders of his mate, reckoned he was. He also happened to be wearing the jersey of the real Thiago Silva, the Brazilian star of Paris Saint-Germain football club.

“He looks like he knows the lyrics, yeah, let’s take a chance on him,” Dave said. “Yeah, he’s wearing a Thiago Silva shirt, let’s get him up here.”

After being hooked up with a mic and a set of in-ear monitors, young Alex then went on to bloody crush it, sending tens of thousands of fans into paroxysms of joy. Observe: the bucket hat, Dave’s instantly-ignored suggestion that Alex only rap AJ Tracey‘s feature verse, the bum bag – it’s all there.

Since Alex took to the stage, Alex has seen his social media accounts blow up – and he’s been contacted by Silva himself.

Speaking to The Guardian, the kid also said Dave “was supportive and said that I would get a lot of messages today and if I needed anything to let him know.

“He said if it got overwhelming he would be there.”

That’s it. That’s the story. May we all be so lucky and unapologetically hyped.
