Here’s The Top 10 Avoidable Things Aussies Are Wasting Money On

Wasting money is, unfortunately, incredibly easy to do. In fact, you’re probably wasting money right now and you don’t even know it. What a bummer.

Financial comparison site Mozo.com.au has crunched the numbers, stating Aussie households are losing more than $5,000 every year on avoidable costs, adding up to a whopping $46.9 billion collectively.

The biggest wasted cost to our wallets, you ask? Bloody durries. Plenty of folks out there are still heaps keen to suck down a few darts, so much so it’s costing us $16.3 billion every year, or $667 per person on average.

If you’re not fangin’ for a coupla hot boys, the second biggest expense is food waste, clocking in at $8 billion annually, or $328 per person on average.

We’re also wasting a ton of money on gambling, clocking an individual cost of $275 on average every year. Beyond our love of lung lollies and a good play on the Devil’s piano, financial institutions are also stinging us, says Mozo director Kirsty Lamont.

Credit card interest is one of the most expensive forms of debt, that can sting even the savviest spender,” she said. “It always pays to compare credit cards to ensure youve got the best card for your spending habits, and if you cant pay it off, refinance and pay your debts. A little bit of forward planning can ensure you avoid ATM fees and bank fees.
