The $964M US Powerball Winner Has Already Quit Her Job, Shockingly

The winner of yesterday’s ridic US Powerball draw has come forward.

Mavis Wanczyk, a 53 year old medical worker and mother of two adult children from Chicopee, Massachusetts was revealed overnight during a press conference as the winner of the effing yuge $759 Million (AUD$964 million).

Wanczyk was initially left in a near-paralysis when, whilst leaving work with a colleague, she discovered that she was the sole winner of the jackpot.

He’s reading these numbers, and I pull mine out, and I go, ‘Hey, I have that number…and I have that…I have that!’ And he goes, ‘Let me see that ticket–you just won!’

I couldn’t drive anywhere. I couldn’t do anything. He followed me to make sure I was safely home.

With her odds of winning at 1 in 292 million, Mavis is still shocked that she is the only winner. Like most winners she has chose to take a lump sum payment, rather than the full payment in instalments. This means that she is set to immediately pocket a much lower yet still impressive $336 million (AUD$425.6 million), after taxes and other fees.

Of course, the first thing Mavis did once she composed herself was immediately quit her job of 32 years. As she told the press conference, “I have called and I have told them I will not be coming back.”

She also noted that while she’s never been poor, she’s happy to finally be in a position to not worry about money.

I’ve been okay. I’m not gonna say I’m the richest person in the world, I can’t say I’m the poorest person in the world. I make do with what I have.

I just want to sit back and relax. I had a pipe dream, and my pipe dream has finally come true, I wanted to retire and it came early.

Couldn’t have happened to a nicer person, tbh.
