Meet The Illustrator Building A Career Off Iconic Pop Culture Moments

If there’s one talent I always wished I had growing up, it’s illustrating. My neighbour was always the artist – she could sit down for thirty seconds and create anything’s likeness just with a pencil and page. Talent hey, gotta love it.

Alas, my talent is limited to drawing the same exact kangaroo, only ever facing one direction. I have mastered this one kangaroo image and personally will call it a day right there, because frankly I feel I’ve hit my peak already. Why a kangaroo you may ask? Well, I have no clue. But he’s a dashing lil’ creature and I’ve grown quite fond of him. I cannot abandon my kangaroo son now, we’ve come so far together.

Look, the whole point of the story is that I really love art and I think it’s incredible, but I just never thought it was something I’d be able to do. But what I can definitely do is respect the people that do illustration and design on the reg, because they’re incredibly talented folk.

So if you want to scope out some more advanced illustration skills, you’re best to check with someone who has a bit more of an expansive repertoire.

Take Amy Blue for example. She’s an illustrator and graduate of Billy Blue College of Design – and yes, she’s the one behind all those sick pop culture pins that have been appearing on lapels everywhere lately. From Bill Murray to Ugly Crying Dawson, she’s got 34 designs just waiting to pin themselves to your denim jacket.

We had a chat with her to talk about her career path and the four things that mean most to her. Check out the vid below to scope out her sketches.
