‘PUBG’ Has Made An Absolutely Absurd Amount Of Money In Just 8 Months

Since its release in March of 2017, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has broken record after record to become one of the most popular titles in modern gaming. In just 8 months, PUBG has managed to rake in an absurd $712 million in revenue, according to SuperData Research.

To put that number into perspective, it accounts for 12 per cent of all revenue generated on the PC platform. It even blitzed the earnings of both Overwatch ($382 million) and CounterStrike: Global Offensive ($341 million), almost surpassing the total of the two games combined.

For those unfamiliar with PUBG, it’s a multiplayer game that throws 100 players into a huge map where the last person or team standing wins. As the match goes on, the play area continues to shrink. If you’re caught outside that area, you’ll gradually lose health until you die. It soared to popularity shortly after its release on Steam‘s early access platform, despite being a buggy and unfinished product at the time.

It wasn’t long before the game became insanely popular, even dethroning Valve‘s own Dota 2 to become the title with the most concurrent players.

SuperData’s report also estimates around 30 million copies of PUBG have been sold so far, 4 million of which have been for the Xbox One. While the majority of big earnings come from multiplayer titles, the number 9 spot was taken out by the amazing RPG game, Divinity: Original Sin 2, which made a tidy $85 million in revenue.

You can suss the report right here if you’re keen on more nerdy data. Otherwise, see you in Pochinki, bitch.
