Genius Ways To Display Your Art When You Rent & Can’t Drill Into The Walls

Renting sucks – you’re just throwing money into the void essentially, and you can do shit-all with the place you live in. I know that’s a really pessimistic way to view it but WHATEVER! It’s true! Luckily, with some nifty work-arounds you can make your rented abode feel somewhat like home – and one of the best ways to do that is by getting some art in there.

Unfortunately, you’re pretty limited with what you can do in terms of wall art. No drilling! No sticky things that might rip the paint off! We trawled Pinterest to find some neat ideas for displaying your art that doesn’t involve stabbing nails into walls.

PUT THEM ALONG A SHELF

Maybe your property has shelving installed already. But even if it doesn’t, a landlord is usually more receptive to updates to the home that will benefit future renters, like shelving, than they are about drilled holes that work purely for your own display purposes. So hit up your real estate agent and pop a floating shelf up, then line your prints along it.

PROP IT UP ON A TABLE

Turn your wall art into a display piece by propping it against the wall on a table. A low table like this makeshift one works, but you can do this on a sideboard or even a large bedside table.

OR JUST POP IT ON THE FLOOR

Larger pieces can look amazing just leaning against the wall on the floor, particularly in open spaces like hallways and lounge rooms.

MAKE YOUR OWN WALL FEATURE WITH WASHI TAPE

Don’t have any art for your walls, or want a proper feature piece? People all over Pinterest are using washi tape – which comes easily off when you move, by the way – to create art of their own on their home walls.

HANG THEM ALONG SOME STRING

If you have plenty of prints but absolutely zero frames (and cbf buying some/can’t afford it) try hanging them along a piece of string. You can attach the string corners to existing nails in the wall (because lord knows rentals always have weirdly placed existing wall nails) and it means you can hang multiple pieces of art in a sort of adult kids-painting way.

OR ALONG A CLOTHING RACK

If someone told me about this concept and didn’t show me this picture, I would laugh at them. But it totally works if your art is all one style or designed to be seen together.
