Welcome to Travel/Full-time

Closes 23 Dec 2021

Dear Future Tour Manager,

Have you been scrolling through job ads that all sound boring AF and don’t appeal to you?

Don’t tell me, they go along the lines of “We’re looking for someone with 10 years experience, you will be a motivated individual but also a team player yada yada yada”

How many of them actually tell you about the company and the culture?

How many times do you even want to keep reading the ad? Not many, right?

If you’re going to work every day, putting your time and energy into a career, then you should be looking for something that aligns with your values and that you truly believe in.

Imagine actually getting excited about going to work, what a feeling!

If your face is lighting up as you’re reading, this might be the most important job ad you ever read.

Here’s why…

Experience can be great, but it’s not the be all and end all and we don’t only look for people with experience in the travel industry.

When looking at who is best to join our team, we look for individuals that are switched on, sharp and passionate about travel, people and delivering experiences.

We back ourselves to be able to teach you the industry knowledge part.

We look for people that are assertive, ambitious, are excited about getting themselves, and our travellers out of their comfort zone.

Wait a minute, what is a Tour Manager anyway?

This is someone who:

  • Cares about international travellers’ experience of Australia
  • Want to have a lasting impact on people’s lives
  • Wants travellers to return home and shout from the rooftops that everyone needs to go travelling.
  • Truly believes that travel enables people to see the world differently.
  • Is passionate about training and leading teams
  • Is ambitious about growing as a person and a leader
  • Is excited by new challenges, opportunities and a fast paced environment
  • Is enthusiastic about embracing the Welcome to Travel culture, and therefore instilling it in others.
  • Isn’t afraid to share and contribute their ideas on how to improve systems and processes, and then lead the way in implementing them.

Your role will include giving guides the best opportunity to be the best. You will also play an integral part in perfecting current itineraries and creating new ones. Our tours change travellers lives, and your role will play a massive part in that.

Now I know that sounds cheesy but the positive effect our tours and community have on people is astounding. Check our reviews on TripAdvisor if you don’t believe us….

We pride ourselves on our service, and a huge part of our success in delivering that is down to our tour guiding principles.

Another reason for our rave reviews is the quality of our offerings, and this comes from working with local operators, maintaining long standing relationships that we value.

Your role as Tour Manager will encapsulate both of these things.

Through the ability to get the best out of your team and the tours as a whole, your role as Tour Manager is pivotal in ensuring a traveller has the best possible experience.

Ok, a little bit about us…

  • We are a full service travel company that has big ambitions.
We run award winning tours in Melbourne, Sydney and the East Coast of Australia for international travellers.
  • Our Welcome to Melbourne tour is the number one tour on TripAdvisor. And all 5* reviews…SAY WHAAAAAAT!
  • We have had travellers from 37 different countries.
  • Been featured on UNILAD
  • Worked with some of the world’s best YouTubers.
  • We have even had a viral video…Things Never Said By Backpackers.
  • We live and breathe travelling and it is our vision to create a world where everyone is encouraged to travel.

We know that the hardest part about travelling is always the start, so we want to make sure each traveller has the best possible experience with us.

Let Us Tell You About The Role

  • Although your working week and expectations will be clear, the role will be kept exciting and fresh as no two days are the same.
  • The working environment can be dynamic and flexible, it won’t be a clock in and clock out kind of role.
  • Our growth to date has been the result of hard work, but also team collaboration. We encourage great ideas from all team members and we are not afraid to implement them/try new things.
  • We’ll be working hard to build and serve our community when the borders open up.

You will be:

  • Working closely with Adam and Darryl (Directors) on a day-to-day basis
  • Based in either Melbourne or Sydney (depending on successful candidate)
  • Travelling to the City (Melbourne or Sydney) that you don’t live in twice a quarter, for 1-3 days at a time.
  • Training and leading 2 teams of guides, both in Sydney and Melbourne
  • Working closely with your team of tour guides to ensure customer’s expectations are exceeded.
  • Be the go to person for our suppliers for our tours in Melbourne, Sydney and the East Coast. This will include:
    • Managing the booking of each element of the tour
    • Consistently working with operators to strive for the best possible processes for both parties.
    • Working with our countrywide tour partners to ensure we have the best possible options for our travellers
    • Seeking new supplier arrangements, in the event of a new inclusion or as a replacement contingency option.
  • Managing quality of the tours, using feedback forms and reviews to inform you.
  • Managing and implementing the systems and processes that make a tour run.
  • Creating and leading Tour Management projects
  • Creating, managing and executing Tour Contingency plans
  • Working towards individual and team targets
  • Ensuring your team has the tools they need to meet their targets

So if you’re passionate about travel,  like the sound of working as part of a progressive team and you want to play a key part in travelers’ lives and Welcome to Travel’s success, we’d love to hear from you.

Please take the time to write a cover letter that tells us about YOU.

We don’t want the boring stuff, we want the details.

We want you to jump off the page as if you’re actually in the room, telling us about who YOU are and specifically why you think you would be a perfect fit for this role.

If you can’t take the time to do this, then please don’t apply.

We want someone who wants to make a difference in people’s lives and go that extra mile.

  • Self-motivated, confident and energetic
  • An excellent communicator
  • Passionate about training and leading

  • Able to solve problems
  • Calm under pressure
  • A good listener
  • Experienced in working with people in some capacity, for example in hospitality, tourism or sales*

*This would be a plus but it is not essential.

What we’re offering

  • Full time role with salary and bonuses – we want to reward our teams successes.
  • Fully funded place on a 12 month Management and Leadership (Cert IV/Diploma) course. Hours of study will be afforded in the working week.
