We are currently seeking applications for a Production Manager. This is a career opportunity for a motivated and experienced Production Manager to join our growing team, located in our Sydney studio (in Rosebery/Alexandria).

The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 years’ experience working within a premium brand, with a proven track record as a Production Manager. Working closely with the Design team, the Production Manager will be responsible for the planning and execution of Matteau’s resortwear and swimwear production schedules, to deliver a high quality product adhering to specifications and deadlines.

Key responsibilities

  • Development and management of seasonal schedules, working closely with the Design and Sales departments and management to ensure alignment
  • Day to day liaison and close relationship management with all makers/factories
  • Procurement of new suppliers and factories as required
  • Procurement, order placement and timely delivery of fabric, trims, accessories and packaging ensuring sustainability and efficiency guidelines are followed to reduce footprint and wastage
  • Materials inventory management for all fabric, trims, accessories and packaging
  • Supply chain management and traceability reporting
  • Management of freight and logistics of all incoming production materials
  • Creation and management of product costings and margins including budget reporting and forecasting
  • Work closely with Design team on allocation of styles to makers and ensuring production is allocated with achievable workloads
  • Ensure detailed and timely communication (internal and with suppliers and factories) on factory capacity and seasonal production needs
  • Undertake detailed product briefing and production handover with all makers prior to commencement of production, ensuring detailed product knowledge and key specifications/measurements, packaging requirements, deadlines and logistics
  • Creation of production orders, managing all counterparts throughout the process (cut, make, trim, delivery)
  • Management of QC process and reporting at all points through the production process to ensure smooth production and adherence to all specifications and high quality standards
  • Escalation of production issues or delivery delays and application of solution-based thought to problems encountered
  • Create and build products within internal inventory management software system
  • Liaise with internal departments (warehouse, sales, customer service, operations) on sales orders and inventory management to determine order quantities and enable efficient forecasting

Additional responsibilities 

  • Maintenance of Production department work-in-progress notes for team communication
  • Maintenance of season trackers to ensure all information is up to date
  • Maintenance of QC reporting files
  • Ensure sustainability and environmental credentials of all suppliers is up to date to ensure sustainable sourcing practices are maintained
  • Assist with performance wear and wash testing each season where required
  • Maintenance of documented fabric library for all seasonal fabrications
  • Longer hours will be required at certain periods or in the lead up to key industry events

  • Strong team management, leadership and motivational skills
  • Efficient time management skills and the ability to multi-task and operate under pressure
  • Strong belief in sustainable and ethical production practices, with the conviction and desire to ensure this filters through all purchasing and production decisions
  • Extensive understanding of the production process as well as technical knowledge on garment construction and patternmaking
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to maintain strong relationships with suppliers and makers, as well as internal departments
  • Strategic and forward thinking and able to anticipate issues and threats
  • Strength in reporting and budgeting
  • Good knowledge of inventory management software, Excel, Word, Google Docs
  • A reliable car with valid driver’s licence
