We are recruiting Product Developers for an Australian fashion retailer in the following categories:

  • Womenswear Woven Product Developer
  • Cut & Sew Product Developer
  • Knitwear Product Developer
  • Denim Product Developer

As a Product Developer, you will be responsible to execute and deliver product developed offshore that meets the designers’ intent and the iconic retailers’ high quality standards, target margins and delivery timelines.

Objectives for the role include:

Sourcing and Research

  • Source fabrics/trims in line with the design vision & price targets
  • Annual travel to Asia to attend fabric/yarn fairs and visit key vendors. Working with their R&D teams on the newest and most suitable development for our brands

Development and Sampling

  • Managing assigned categories to ensure on time development samples that meet design and brand quality standards
  • Work closely with design team on recommendations of qualities and suppliers based on the design vision
  • Work hand in hand with the Head of Development to ensure that the correct suppliers are selected in line with the company global sourcing strategies
  • Maintain current supplier relationships and identify new suppliers which will help maximise margins and facilitate growth for the brand
  • Daily communication with vendors to ensure all samples are accurate and received on time
  • Create and manage weekly WIP and update key stakeholders of any potential delays or risk to the product development
  • Resolve any supplier queries to ensure samples are delivered within the agreed sample deadline
  • Work closely with the Technical team at development stage to ensure that fabrics meet the strict testing standards

Cost Management

  • Responsible for all product costings, finding solutions to ensure all product hits target margins yet remains within the design vision
  • Liaise regularly with the Buying and Design teams to ensure all departments have the same information on product, cost and suppliers ahead of buying and ranging meetings
  • Negotiate costs with vendors to ensure margin requirements are met at style and category level
  • Negotiate bulk cost process for approval by Head of Product after final buy has been communicated
  • Partner closely with production team on all production deliverables

Qualifications and Experience:

  • 4 + years’ experience in a similar role
  • You will have a design background and/or degree qualified in design, production and/or textiles
  • Significant experience managing offshore suppliers and factories
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong knowledge of the product cycle and product development timelines
  • Mandarin language skills preferred, but not essential
  • Knowledge and experience of AP21 or similar programs preferred
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Team player with the ability to communicate articulately and effectively, providing influence across the business regarding product
  • Must be highly detail oriented, organised, have the ability to set standards and execute
  • Ability to prioritise and follow through to ensure deadlines are met and critical path is maintained
  • Be proactive, passionate and enthusiastic about product and sell through results
