Are you passionate about working with your hands to create bespoke goods in a positive and energetic environment? Do you dream of working in a bright, sunny workshop with a small group of talented artisans who thrive on developing new skills and expanding their knowledge base weekly? If working with an Australian company which is known and loved worldwide appeals to you, read on.

About Us

We’re Bas and Lokes. Our curated range of bespoke, artisan small leather goods are sought out by collectors from New York to Paddington. Lovers of vintage and new watches collect our meticulously hand crafted, high end watch straps to complement their timepieces. We’ve been doing what we do for over seven years and we take great pride in the quality of our goods, the way they enhance our customers’ lives as well as the community we have created.

Our raison d’être is to experiment, shift tactics and look for better ways to achieve our goals. We work with a growth mindset and on a daily basis we relentlessly search for higher efficiency and productivity improvements that lead to better ways to get things done.

 About You

We’re a small team of three women who each work on various aspects of our production process and we’re on the hunt for someone special to join us. This won’t be the role for everyone, but for that someone special this could well be an exciting job with a vast opportunity for growth. Bas and Lokes is my baby and I want to continue building this little company into a place with a culture that attracts people who want to be hands on, who take pride in their work and who are willing to help continue making a difference in our customers’ lives.

You will be an integral figure here. As La Presidenta, I wear many hats and at the moment I need to step outside of the workshop to dedicate more time to other aspects of our business. Therefore I will be little by little training you to take over part of my production schedule with some of the work I currently do which requires lots of precision, repetition, patience and time to master.  As you progress, you will be depended upon to be responsible for a large part of the work crafting our handsome high end leather watch straps. Other projects you will work on from time to time include wallets, pouches and other accessories. Because we’re a small team, we’re all very hands on and in any given day you will complete a variety of tasks, especially during busy periods. On the plus side, there’s always something new to learn and as you progress with your skills you will be working with less supervision and will be relied upon to make production decisions with our other team mates. You will learn a range of skills that will enable you to handcraft beautiful leather goods with exceptional details and finishing. At Bas and Lokes, we employ a mix of traditional crafting techniques with some modern ones. You will learn the essential skill of hand saddle stitching as the majority of our products are hand sewn. You will also learn to select the right piece of leather for the products you will be making. You will learn to cut out watch straps, make buckle holes, sewing holes, sand and burnish leather, finish watch straps and other leather goods and a range of other skills with time as you grow and progress and as we see fit.

Finally, you must be adaptable to change and be on the look out for ideas for change. Your feedback on all aspects of our work will be regularly solicited.

Necessary Skills
Highly organised and able to work independently
Fast learner able to work at a swift pace to help us stay on schedule
Observant
Respectful and supportive of our high quality standards
Have a desire to create flawless products
Meticulous and attentive to detail
Excellent close-up vision and hand to eye coordination
Possess critical thinking and decision making skills
Switched on individual able to recognise problems and help find solutions
Ability to manage projects and follow them through to completion, prioritising and pushing things forward yourself, but calling on support when needed

We’re not just looking for someone based on their skills and expertise.  We’d like someone who’s got something a little special. That means you also need to be:

Positive, energetic, and have an enthusiastic personality
Highly dependable, reliable and on time
Very passionate individual and have experience working with your hands whether its making your own clothes, woodworking, sewing, designing
Must be willing to continue to learn new things and develop themselves in this field in and out of work
Be willing to cross train and try new things and take on new weekly challenges

Location and hours
This is a part-time role from 9-5 every Wednesday and Thursday and perhaps more during busy periods and as you progress with your skills.

We’re based in beautiful Woolooware in a sunny and bright, small private workshop. It’s a peaceful space with music and creativity filling the air. Our outdoor space is very green and Soda the mini poodle is always around for many pats.
We’re three short blocks from Woolooware train station. Elouera and Wanda beaches are a four minute drive away. We’re also a few minutes away from Cronulla and Taren Point shopping area.
