Forever Network is looking for a contract part-time sports writer to join our Basketball Forever vertical. Basketball Forever is the worlds leading social-first basketball media outlet, with a following of over 2M on Facebook and an average unique monthly audience of 50M+.

Working with one of the best sports content teams in the world, this is an opportunity to gain invaluable editorial skills and have your work published to millions worldwide.  

We’re looking for someone who can write two small to medium (250-500 word) length articles per day, occasionally just a longer feature article, and be available for a brief (20mins) content team phone call every few days.

You will be provided with story ideas and guidance, and are able to pitch your own angles and articles. This is an exceptional opportunity to build your experience and portfolio with one of the largest basketball audiences on the planet.

Remuneration: $2,000 / month.  

Period of Engagement: 1-month trial followed by a 10-month contract (end of 2017-’18 NBA Season) with the possibility of extension (performance dependent).

Location: Ideally from our Sydney CBD office. But anywhere in the world for the right candidate. 

Your Responsibilities:

  • Submit two small to medium (250-500 word) length articles per day, occasionally just a longer feature article, on Basketball news topics.These articles should be timely, engaging and aligned with the Basketball Forever tone of voice. 

  • Join our broader content team for a phone call link-up every few days, and maintain open and communications as part of the Forever Network team.

  • You will be provided with guidance and story idea but you should also be sourcing news from social media and across the internet that is relevant to our audience, and create stories around them.

  • Source tweets, images, videos and other materials to embed in the articles.

  • Stay abreast of the NBA news cycle, pitching and submitting relevant stories.

  • Contributing to occasional brainstorming sessions with FN content team.

  • Upload your articles into WordPress for approval and publication.

  • Listen to feedback and grow with the team.

 Our ideal candidate is:

  • Insanely passionate about Basketball, and understands the game and the NBA news cycle.

  • Experienced in writing and editing copy for digital, exceptional English and punctuation skills.

  • Creative and witty, understands digital trends, current memes, and street culture.

  • Have an excellent sense of pace and timing, a knowledge of the best ways to grab viewers, and a sense of how to tell a powerful story in as little words as possible. 

  • Understand news doesn’t always happen during traditional hours and are flexible with your schedule. 

  • Experience with writing online content, including the use of keywords, hyperlinks, navigation and the importance of brevity. 

  •  Experienced with a CMS system (ideally WordPress), Basic Photoshop, HTML and CSS skills are not required but would be ideal!
