Well. We knew Jay Z and Beyoncé were rich, but considering we can barely cover our rent at the best of times, their 2017 real estate bill is pretty bloody astounding. After splashing out $114 million (AUD$145 million) on just two houses, they’ve pretty much topped the list of big celeb real estate spenders for the past year.
In a round up of celebrity home sales, Variety points out that Jay and Bey were just, er, lowly renters until last year when they decided to fork out for their own property.
The king and queen of music spent up biiig, first shelling out USD$88 million (AUD$112.7 million) for an eight bedroom, 11 bathroom monstrosity in the super swank Los Angeles neighbourhood of Bel-Air. The place also includes staff quarters (naturally), 929 square metres of outdoor areas, staff quarters, a regulation-sized basketball court, a wellness centre, a 15-car garage and four swimming pools. YES, FOUR.
Once they were done settling that particular West Coast sale, the couple also bought up on the East Coast. They spent a relatively modest (!) USD$25.9 million (AUD$33.1 million) on a “cottage” in The Hamptons in upstate New York. Set on 2.1 acres, the pad boasts five bedrooms and seven full bathrooms (plus two half bathrooms) as well as a two bedroom and one bathroom guest cottage that is no doubt bigger than my entire suburb.
To be fair, Mr and Mrs Carter did add two lil’ bebes to their brood this year, so maybe they needed the space. But let’s be real, they’ll need to have four more sets of twins to fill all these bedrooms.
