I Gave This DIY Bouquet Box A Go For About Three Seconds Before Mum Hijacked It

Friends, here’s your gentle reminder that Mother’s Day is coming up soon. And by soon I mean Sunday, 10 May. With how utterly miserable things have been lately, I reckon this year’s the year to treat your mum to something sweet. Enter FLOX Botanical. It’s basically a DIY flower bouquet flat pack, and it is happiness in a box. Not that I would know, because my mum hijacked my FLOX box before I could even smell the flowers.

The recently launched family business is all about making at-home floristry “pure joy with zero hassle”. Can confirm Mum was absolutely delighted with her flowers and posted her work on Facebook and Instagram immediately afterwards.

So how does it work? Well, the FLOX team select freshly cut flowers from local Melbourne sources, hand-pack it into a box, and ship it straight to your door. The type of flowers will depend on availability and season, but you can message the team first to see what flowers are on offer for the week. Printed on the inside of the box are instructions, a simple step-by-step guide on how to assemble your flowers.

Visual coming in hot.

FLOX were super kind to send me a box filled with white mink protea, tulips, Italian ruscus, and white stock. About three seconds after I opened the box and had a suss, Mum grabbed it and took it outside. And without even reading the instructions, she picked up her garden scissors and got trimming. Meanwhile, I just stood there and took photos. I also grabbed a vase. That’s about the extent of my efforts here. But it was genuinely so lovely to watch Mum not stress about the news for a solid hour. All she cared about in that moment was assembling her own bouquet.

Note: take the flowers out of the box first. I would’ve, but someone was too impatient. You can find a whole tutorial right here.

It’s really up to you how you want to arrange your flowers – no leaves, all the leaves, whatever floats your boat. If you’re looking for some inspo, might I suggest the FLOX Instagram. Vase not included.

And after about 40 minutes of trimming and fiddling and re-positioning, Mum was done.

TA-DAAAA (ignore the squashed leaves at the bottom, please).

Not bhed.

FLOX boxes come in both small ($39.95) and large ($59.95), with free delivery across Melbourne. If you’re a fan of the DIY, sign up for their subscription service, which delivers a FLOX box to your door every Thursday. Grab your FLOX box right HERE.

I for one will be ordering another box for Mother’s Day. Maybe two so I can actually make my own bouquet this time.
