A migraine attack is debilitating, and can include a combination of an impossibly throbbing head, spots on your vision, nausea, vomiting, numbness and overall pain that you wouldn’t wish on your worst enemy.

Fresh research shows there may be a correlation between gut bacteria and migraines.
Supposedly, some migraine sufferers have a higher amount of gut bacteria that are known to be involved in processing nitrates, which are usually found in products like leafy vegetables, processed meats and wine.
This gut bacteria breaks down the nitrates faster than average, causing vessels in the brain and scalp to dilate – resulting in a hellish migraine.
Certain food triggering a migraine attack is nothing new, but this research is unique in that it suggests a connection between nitrate-heavy food and an one’s microbiomes.
The study, conducted by the University of California San Diego and published in the journal mSystems, sequenced bacteria found in 172 oral samples and 1,996 faecal samples from healthy participants, who had also reported whether they were affected by migraines.
In both oral and poopie samples, people with migraines had slightly higher levels of bacteria linked to breaking down nitrates.
The study’s author, Antonio Gonzalez, said that in the future “a magical probiotic mouthwash” could be a plausible solution to balance the bacteria and help prevent migraines.
But until that happens?
“If you suspect that nitrates are causing you migraines, you should try to avoid them in your diet,” said Gonzales.
