Why Khloe Kardashian’s New ‘Revenge Body’ Reality Show Is Harmful Bullshit

If you actively follow the Kardashians, you’d be well aware that Khloe Kardashian has been a woman on a fitness mission over the past couple of years.

She routinely posts her impressive workouts to Snapchat and grams countless mirror selfies featuring her taut abs and round badonkidonk. You’ve got to hand it to her – she’s clearly passionate about health and strength.
Back in April last year, she spoke to People mag about her new-found fondness for the gym.
Discussing her tumultuous relationship and eventual split from ex-husband Lamar Odom, Khloe said the gym was her “refuge”.
“When me and Lamar were having issues, I decided to channel my energy into working out,” she said. “If I went out with my girlfriends, I would be hounded by paparazzi and made to feel more humiliated.”

Hounded is an understatement. From the moment her family shot to international fame, Khloe’s weight has proved to be a favoured topic of discussion for tabloids the world over.
Heck, 45th President of the United States, the ever-charming Donald Trump, even called her a “fat piglet” at one stage.
From this constant criticism, she’s squatted out a brand-new show, ‘Revenge Body’.
The show works in a similar format to The Biggest Loser, with Khloe training 16 overweight contestants to help them achieve a tighter rig as a means of getting revenge on someone who has done them wrong.
“This revenge body, who is it for?” Khloe asks contestants in the promo clip.
“My ex-fiancé,” says one woman.
“My mum,” says another.
“My friends,” says the last.
While the show obviously promotes exercise and healthy choices, the idea of changing your appearance to clap back at “haters” is a (clean eating) recipe for disaster.
It’s inherently flawed.
Fact of the matter is, shedding 5kgs and gaining the ability to deadlift 120kgs without slipping a disc isn’t going to get your ex to love you again, or your absent father to suddenly think of you as a prodigy, or your friends to consider you a ~cool guy~
As much as we would like to imagine we can, we cannot control another person’s emotions, and aiming to do so by living on lettuce leaves will only result in bitter disappointment and a grumbly tummy.
Plus, even if your bulging biceps did reignite your ex’s interest in you, would that really be so great? It’d be superficial. Real love and respect should not be conditional. Changing oneself to earn it makes it so.
That’s without going into the fact that countless studies have proven that the hardcore Biggest Loser style approach to weight loss is unsustainable, and in most cases, contestants end up larger than they were in the first place once they’re back in the real world.
Food for thought.
Revenge Body airs on E! on January 12.
