Raging Hangover? A Casual Vitamin IV Drip Could Be The Cure

Today we, the road testers of newish and out there *health* treatments, bring you a review of a hollywood favourite: ‘IV Vitamin Therapy’ or ‘Vitamin IV drips’, short name – Vitamin Infusions.

They’re a little bit ~fancy~ in so far as they cost more than three double cheeseburgers and a frozen coke, but there have been many an outlandish claim that hookin’ yourself up for a round of vitamins has the power to cure a hangover.
You heard us: CURE A HANGOVER. IMAGINE.
Other less exciting shit it apparently helps relieve: jet lag and general fatigue, cold and flus, crap immunity, tired-looking skin etc etc etc.
It must be good, because famous hotties Cara DelevingneRihannaChrissy Teigen and Rita Ora are all over that shit.

hello body meet vitamins

To test out this outrageously appealing theory, P.TV sent in one of our own, still boozed up from the night before, to test it out.
BUT FIRST, A BIT OF HISTORY:
The genius behind the health treatment is Baltimore Doctor John Myers who would administer his eponymous ‘Myers’ Cocktail’ (containing vitamins B6, B12 and magnesium) into his sick and depressed patients. Some 50 years later, Vitamin Infusions are making a comeback, especially in the U.S where ‘drip rooms‘ are more common and where people can get their boost during their lunch break. A greater selection of ‘vitamin cocktails’ are also being offered nowadays, from drips targeted to weight loss to energy drips, alkaline drips and inflammation drips.
HOW IT WORKS:

Laura Lynch from Cosmos Clinic Double Bay who administered the treatment for us, says the treatments take you from 1 to 10 in less than 30 minutes, with effects lasting anywhere from a week to a month, for a cost of between $120 – $500.
Here she is explaining why it works:
“If you’re taking a vitamin C tablet, you need to make sure you take other things that will allow your body to break down the vitamin C capsule and absorb it; with Vitamin Infusions, we’ve got the medication right here and we can put it directly into your bloodstream, it doesn’t have to be broken down by enzymes in the stomach to be absorbed into the liver, it can be directly infused into the bloodstream, so you’re taking out that middleman to ensure you’re getting each and every drop of the vitamins, and you’re not waiting for your body to break it down to absorb it.”

And here she is talking about what goes into the formula soon-to-be injected into our veins:

“Vitamin C is very effective for inducing collagen production so it does have anti-ageing purposes, but it’s also our renew and repair vitamin so it’s very good for helping us feel well again after a cold or flu, or to prevent us from developing it in the first place.

Vitamin B is very effective for fatigue; we all have such busy lifestyles these days, it’s hard to ensure that we have energy for all of these daily tasks all the time, so [vitamin B] it’s a nice little additive and it complements the vitamin C quite well.

And then, we also have the overall Vitamin Cocktail, which has a little bit of everything in there – including some glutathione which is a detoxification vitamin for the liver and really eliminates the toxin in that organ.”
Laura warns that the ‘overall vitamin cocktail’ can make you feel pretty gross for the first 24 hours, as the body ejects all the gunk you’ve been harbouring >  <.
For a hangover though, she prescribes a mix of vitamin C 15mg, vitamin B complex and some fluids for rehydration.
P.TV ROADTEST:
“In preparation for the treatment, I got wasted on a tall glass of Malibu. Tossed that sucker back and passed out. Next morning I had a mountain of a pimple on my cheek, dry mouth, zero appetite and felt a bit groggy, yada yada yada, all the typical symptoms…
Heading into the Cosmos Clinic, I’d developed a bit of a headache. I filled out some paperwork and Laura talked me through the procedure, and then disappeared to mix up my vitamin cocktail.

After a while, she returned with my vitamin fusion – a glowing yellow bag of liquid and we got the needle stuck in. I’m pretty good with needles so no big fuss there. When the fluid went in, I couldn’t feel it at all and wondered if anything was actually happening. The vitamins are fridge’d so they tend to make you feel a bit chilly, which I did notice. I was also told that I might also get a metallic taste in your mouth, but nope.

5 minutes in and I didn’t feel too different. 10 minutes in and my headache was gone *WHOAAA*. I felt re-energised but not like I’d been pumped with adrenaline, but rather like I’d been eating healthy and had slept for days. 15 minutes in I tried to take a nap because my brain suddenly remembered it should be tired, but my body wouldn’t let me so I just got really restless. 20 minutes in and the headache was back but not as rage-y. I still had quite a bit of fluid left in the bag, and wondered how that much liquid could be pumped into my bloodstream without me really noticing. 25 minutes in the headache subdued again. After 30-35 minutes, I was done.

Back at work, I got a few comments about my ~glow~.  . Throughout the day I started to feel more spritely and my face muscles, especially around the eyes, felt really taut and realised afterwards that it could’ve been the collagen at work. I also had to pee quite a bit afterwards, despite not drinking that much water – and got concerned I was peeing out all those glorious vitamins. 24 hours later and I still feel fkn incredible. Cliche as it may sound, I feel really alive, but not like I’m being fuelled by caffeine with the potential to crash at 2pm.

This must be how really healthy – and rich – people feel all the time.

I’m not suggesting you go and get hooked up every time you have one too many vinos – save it for special occasions, as you’ll need to at a cost of $120 minimum per fix – but it’s good to know the option’s there, no?”
