How To Swap A Boozy Weekend For A Fit Getaway & Actually Enjoy It

PEDESTRIAN.TV has partnered up with NikeWomen to spotlight their latest wheels, the Nike Metcon DSX Flyknit and the Nike Metcon 3. They’re tailor-made for the most intense of sweat sessions, from F45 to the weights rack, a 5k run and beyond. You can take a pair for a spin at one of their stores, or purchase ’em online here.

Last week we introduced y’all to NikeWomen‘s Metcon Mack – a genuinely yuge Mack truck that has been lovingly converted to a lush gym / shoe store.
It’s travelled up and down the east coast of Australia (driven the whole way by bloody legend Jillaroo Jess), stopping off at various locations along the way to offer women free 45 minute Nike+ Training Club sessions
I (LucindaLifestyle Editor at PTV, hello!) have been following the Mack ’round on a road trip, sorta like a groupie on Almost Famous, but less cool and a lot sweatier.
While the monstrous moving gym is well decked out, it’s no place to sleep. I Airbnbed my way around and tested out how easy it is to make your temporary home (and iconic surrounds) a freeform training arena. (Course, it wouldn’t be a trip down the coast without a few beverages thrown in, but that’s a different article entirely.)
Nike trainer Claire Cuttler took an hour out of her hectic schedule one day to make a home visit to one of my temporary Airbnb abodes and teach me some circuits perfect for your bedroom / hotel room / anywhere:
Once you’ve got those moves down pat, take a squiz at PTV’s guide to the best little getaway locations on Straya’s east coast for an impromptu holiday / sweatcation.
The Rocks, Sydney
The Rocks, sitting pretty under the Sydney Harbour Bridge, was the first stop for the NikeWomen Metcon Mack.
After thrashing my absolute guts out in the kickoff training sesh, I took some much-needed rest in this Pyrmont one-bedder. Number one benefit of a converted warehouse, apart from feeling like you’re in Brooklyn? Concrete walls you can comfortably wall-sit on without fearing a fall through plasterboard.
When I did make it out of my new home, though, the Harbour Bridge was well within walking distance, and a must-do when in town.

St Kilda, Melbourne
Next stop was sunny St Kilda in Melbourne‘s south, and we stayed at this place, right in the thick of it. If you’re not from Melbourne, a visit to St Kilda is a must. It’s one of the city’s most iconic suburbs, and it’s the epicentre of activewear. The options for a workout here are endless.
Walks along the foreshore midmorning are unbeatable, with killer views across Port Phillip and the city skyline. If you walk towards Point Ormond you’ll come across an outdoor gym, leaving you no excuse not to pump it like Arnold.
If you like small fury animals, a jog down the pier after dark is essential; this is when the penguins come out to say g’day.

Geelong, Victoria

Third stop on our trip was Geelong. The beauty of G town is that it’s like a city in and of itself, only the Airbnbs are far more affordable. It’s far enough away from Melbourne to feel like a solid weekend away, but you won’t fall asleep at the wheel getting there, either (1hr 10min drive, tops).
While you’d imagine the main attraction of Geelong would be the beaches, it boasts a pretty speccy Botanic Garden. Heading here to do some step-ups on a park bench is the perfect antidote to the gym.

If you’re stuck for a training plan while on the go, the Nike+ Training Club app (downloadable here, for free) is an audio-visual guide that’s the next best thing to a trainer.
Wollongong, New South Wales

Sometimes you’ve gotta just take a deep breath in, exhale “screw it” and book the most expensive abode in sight. That’s what we did when we stopped in Wollongong and shacked up at this extravagant home.
When not lounging by my two pools, pretending the Airbnb was my actual house, I took a walk across Sea Cliff Bridge – a spectacular track that is literally on a cliff.
North Bondi, Sydney
Is it possible to live in Bondi and not take training seriously? If you want your surroundings to give you a kick up the butt to get moving, Bondi’s for you.
Home to one of ‘Straya’s most iconic beaches, Bondi is famous for scenic walks (Bondi to Bronte, anyone?), up-high parks with stellar views and of course, surf.

This Airbnb sleeps five and you’d be hard pressed finding a better view at a lower price. It’s literally on the water. If the sight (from your bedroom window, no less) of ripped surfers paddling out to sea isn’t enough to get you outta bed and sweating, god only knows what is.
Newcastle, New South Wales
The final stop on our round trip was Newcastle, and at this point, my arms, legs and soul were at breaking point from intense training. This cute lil’ designer studio was the perfect place to relax and unwind. I didn’t train a tonne at this stop because rest days are just as important.
A little walk down to the dunes to sit and watch the sunset was more than enough R&R.
And like that, it was all over – Jillaroo Jess stepped down from the drivers seat, the Nike trainers are back to kicking butt on solid ground and the Mack’s tank was dry. (If you missed out, you can still register for a weekly, 45-minute N+TC session in Syd or Melb for free)
Our arms though? Bloody bulging, thanks.
