City2Surf Scores Hot New Route After 39 Years, Makes Your Final KM Bearable

For the first time in 39 years, the City2Surf route is changing.

If you’ve never run the the race, this won’t mean a whole lot to you.

But if you’ve ever experienced the soul-crushing moment when you come down the final hill in north Bondi only to realise that in order to reach the finish line you have to run the entire length of Bondi, then almost the entire length back… this is fukken’ excellent news.*

(*This is our take. Your take might be different.)

In the new route, runners will instead “zigzag” down to the finish line, which will stay in the same place, which race legend / dude who literally wrote the book on City2Surf Chris Edwards says will be a bit of a psychological boost.

“This one is a significant change,” he said. “I think it makes it a bit easier, you can see the finish and it’s just a zigzag to reach it.”

The other advantage, of course, is that it’s easier than ever for finishers to make their way back to the buses, before quietly settling down to a day of whimpering in the corner and watching the likes roll in. Or getting fuck-eyed at Beach Road.
