A Music Festival Powered By Sun & Veggie Oil Is Hippying Its Way To Melb

On the day of the summer solstice (that’s December 22nd, ICYMI) the solar-powered music festival dubbed ‘OFF.the.GRID’ kicks off at the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art Forecourt.
The lineup includes the likes of Cut Copy DJ’sTornado WallaceBanoffeeWax’o Paradiso, and Sui Zhen and will run on juice coming out of a 7000-watt solar battery pack, backed up by a bio-diesel generator running on vegetable oil. Which is pretty damn cool.
If you’re not impressed by a entire festival running on the stuff you put into a stirfry, then be impressed by this instead: the money raised from this initial event will be go towards a renewable power station in Victoria, and the revenue from that project will go on to fund future music festivals and parties in the area. It’s all a beautiful circle of recycling and helping one another! Dawwwww.
The concept comes from creative sustainability pro Ross Harding and Our Say CEO Eyal Halamish. The two disco-lovin’ larrikins have been harnessing the power of the sun to throw party after party in cities around the world, literally just to show everyone that it could be done in an environmentally sustainable way.
Watch the guys explaining their ~incred~ concept:
If you’re keen to see what an environmentally ethical and sustainable festival looks like, first round ‘OFF.the.GRID’ tickets are going for $40 each, and you can grab them from OTG’s website: offthegrid.global
