4 Everyday Things To Do That’ll Remind You That Not Everything Is As ~Terrible~ As It Seems

I know it doesn’t need to be repeated, but 2020 was ~a lot~. Heck, the first few weeks of 2021 have been pretty intense too. Can we control what happens around us? No. But, we can control how we react to everything by the choices we make every day.

It definitely sounds easier said than done, especially when falling into bad habits can be super easy and comforting. Sometimes we need to give ourselves an extra push (or an extra promise of a treat) to get stuff done to be our very best selves.

So, to gather some advice and inspo about making each day count, we had a chat with Elly Miles about what she’s doing in 2021 to maintain her wellbeing. For Elly, it’s all a combo of working towards long-term and shorter goals every day to stay balanced.

“Walking my dog, going to the gym and spending time with my friends,” said Elly to PEDESTRIAN.TV when discussing the things she does every day to keep a smile on her dial. Inspired? Here’s a little rundown of what else she’ll be doing throughout the year to give 2021 the kick it deserves.

Set goals and work towards ’em

Waking up in the morning with a clear vision of what you’re setting out to achieve that day is a sure-fire way to enhance your drive and motivation.

“My main goal for 2021 is to continue to evolve as an individual and be the best version of myself. I really want to focus on my wellbeing and happiness,” said Elly.

Working towards being physically and mentally healthier is also high on Elly’s to-do list this year – a longterm goal which can easily be broken down into daily nuggets like getting out for a run or ensuring your get your 5 and 2.

“I feel my best when I am enjoying a balanced lifestyle following the 80:20 rule when it comes to nutrition and regular training.”

“Another goal of mine is to set some mental and physical challenges! Whether that be something like signing up for a Triathlon or something that requires a lot of hard work, commitment and resilience. I’m still on the lookout for the perfect challenge in that regard.”

Give back

There’s no denying making others feel great is a one-way ticket to serotonin-ville. Seriously, there’s science to back this up. Whether it’s as simple as a smile or shouting your workmate coffee, small random acts of kindness are the easiest way to give yourself a little jolt of much needed joy.

Elly is boosting her 2021 by giving back and getting involved with charity events like SurFebruary, which raises money for Cancer Research.

“I will also be getting involved in the Newy100 again this year, raising funds and awareness for Lifeline. Last year I did the final 10km with the local legends who completed 100kms. This year I’m seriously considering doing the 100kms – depending on whether my schedule would allow for the intense training regime,” she added.

Don’t forget to reward yourself

Treating yourself is essential. If we can’t bask in the things that make us happy then doing the hard yards feels thankless. Elly is also a huge believer in rewarding yourself with something you enjoy after kicking a goal – no matter how big or small.

“I’m all about enjoying life! One of the greatest joys in life for me is enjoying food! So whether that be going out for dinner or enjoying one of the tangy and refreshing Proud & Punch Lime Coconut Pops, then I’m all about it,” said Elly.

Remember, everything is temporary

Last but not least, it’s important to remember that no matter how hard things seem, there is always a light at the end of the tunnel.

“Just know that everything in life is temporary! Every storm passes,” said Elly. She also stressed the importance of knowing when it’s okay to say “no” to things as well if you’re in need of a little extra self-care on certain days too.
