Grab Yr Best Polo Shirt, Vampire Weekend Dropped Two Cheeky Falls Fest Sideshows

Vampire Weekend, purveyors of fine baroque indie pop, are in the country at the turning of the new year as part of Falls Festival, and they’ve decided to stick around in the summer heat for a spell for a couple of very special sideshows in January.

The New York City collective will bring their upbeat, summery tunes to two super intimate shows at Melbourne’s Forum on January 7, and Sydney’s Enmore Theatre on January 9, playing tracks from their huge new album, Father Of The Bride and surely a whole plethora of essential hits from their influential 11-year, four-album career.

Truly, the Forum in Melbourne is probably one of the most-Vampire Weekend venues for Ezra Koenig and co. to play in. The theatrics and wonder of the whole space is the perfect room to sing and dance along to wonderfully and endearingly twee tracks like ‘M79’, ‘Step’, ‘Holiday’ or literally anything from their debut album.

Speaking of that debut album, I simply cannot believe that came out 11 years ago, the year that I finished high school. Not sure about you but it reeks of driving around on balmy summer evenings with the windows down, and everyone piling into one person’s car to go to a house party down by the beach. Ah, sweet mems.

Vampire Weekend was last here for Splendour last year, maxing out a setlist with back to back bangers, including Ezra’s collab with SBTRKT for ‘New Dorp, New York’, so come prepared to boogie your ass off, it’s going to be a sweaty, fun time.

Tickets for the shows go on sale from 8am (AEDT) on Wednesday October 16, over on the Frontier Touring website, so rally all your friends together, dig out your best polo shirts, cutoff shorts and Volleys, these tickets will go faster than you can say “Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa.”
