A Real Pirate Band Will Play / Sing ‘Sea Of Thieves’ With You This Weekend

Multiplayer pirate game, Sea of Thieves is out today, folks, and if you’ve read any of my ramblings about it in the past, you’ll know it’s an insanely fun time.

To celebrate its release, Aussie pirate band, Captain Hellfire & The Wretched Brethren, will be offering a wild ‘Sing us a Shanty‘ service where they’ll sing you a song based on your adventures. I shit you not.

If you’re lucky enough to get a session with the band, you’ll get to play the game with them while they sing you a shanty about your time together, which is probably the most authentic pirate experience one can have, to be honest. The shanties will be broadcast live on Mixer, Facebook, and Twitch, so folks can tune in and watch the action on both days between 10am and 6pm AEDT.

The service will run on March 24 and 25, working on a ticketed first-come, first-serve basis, so you best get in quick if you’re keen. You’ll need to keep an eye out on the Xbox ANZ Facebook page for more details and a link to the Eventbrite page which goes live at 10am on March 21.

“Sea of Thieves is already such an immersive game by design, so it’s only fitting we give fans the chance to get their very own shanties from a real-life pirate band,” said captain of Xbox AustraliaJeremy Harbinger Hinton. “We’re really looking forward to seeing and hearing the tales of adventure on high seas, shanties and treasured stories created between players and the band.”

It’s good to see the team has a sense of humour, which seems to reach all the way up to game’s developers, Rare, who seem to pay close attention to the Sea of Thieves community.

In a Reddit post, one fan asked for a “day one patch”, but in a very literal sense. They wanted an eye patch with a number 1 on it.

“Dear Rare, don’t miss the opportunity to release a ‘Day One Patch’ eye-patch with the games Day One Patch,” user Jefabell wrote in a post on the game’s subreddit.

“I think this is a must,” user ZilorZilhaust wrote in a reply. “Just a black eye patch with the #1 on it.”

Hilariously, this is now in the game.

Bloody good one. Sea of Thieves is out right now on PC and Xbox One. I highly recommend you get on board.

UPDATE: The ticketing is now live.
