You Can Check How Much Cash You’ve Blown On Steam Games If You Like Pain

If you’re partial to a bit of overspending each time a Steam sale roles around, the ability to check how much you’ve spent in total over the years may trigger some mild anxiety in you. The External Funds Used tool, which was released last month, will let you do just that.

Once logged in, the site says it will show you “a sum of external funds that have been applied to your Steam account, either to purchase games on the Steam store or fund your Steam Wallet.”

As a devout PC gamer from a young age, I know I’d spent a fair bit of coin over the years, but fuck me, I didn’t think it was that much. Turns out it was.

That’s in US dollars, too, so the total worth as of today’s exchange rate is more like $1,933 AUD. Good grief.

Other than the total amount, which is pretty self explanatory, OldSpend is the amount put into your account before April 17, 2015, which was when Limited User Account Restrictions were introduced, and PWSpend is the total amount used on Perfect World accounts which are used to access Dota 2 and CS:GO in China.

Limited User Account Restrictions were implemented by Valve to stop malicious users with dummy accounts from accessing certain community features. These restrictions remain in place until the account hits the minimum spend of $US5.

The External Funds Used tool is just another feature added to Steam to help you access and monitor your personal data. It’s scary to know I’ve spent so much money on PC games, but at the end of the day, $2,000 spread out over roughly 15 years isn’t so bad for a hobby I love… Right?
