New ‘World War Z’ Gameplay Looks Like The ‘Left 4 Dead’ We’ve Been Waiting For

When I first heard there was going to be a video game adaptation of the 2013 film, World War Z, my first reaction was very much “meh”. After seeing the latest gameplay trailer, however, I’m way more excited about its release.

Like the movie, the most interesting thing about World War Z the game will surely be its ridiculous hordes of zombies, which will be able to scale wars through sheer volume if left unattended for long enough. But crowds of undead assholes isn’t why I’m excited about it, I’m excited because it looks a lot like Left 4 Dead.

Released in 2008, Left 4 Dead was a 4-player co-op zombie shooter where you and your team had to work your way through various scenarios while fighting off a ton of zombies. It was tense, action-packed, and insanely fun. It got a sequel in 2009, but nothing further since then, despite rumours of a third which never came.

The World War Z gameplay trailer paints a very similar picture to Left 4 Dead. You and your team play through missions set in different parts of the world and complete objectives within, mowing down huge hordes of zombies as you go. It looks good as hell, folks.

Have a look at the trailer below.

Even little things like how certain enemies are highlighted feel heavily reminiscent of the good old Left 4 Dead days. Of course, I’m basing this on the trailer alone, so it could play differently, but I’m excited to give it a whirl to find out.

“World War Z’s co-op campaign takes place across four episodes, each containing three chapters, set in New York, Jerusalem, Moscow and Tokyo,” the video description reads.

“Before diving into a chapter, you will need to select a class and weapon loadout. Whether supporting the team with ammo and heals, specialising in explosives or unleashing devastating firepower, you’ll find a class suited to any playstyle.”

World War Z will even adjust the AI difficulty depending on your situation and how you’ve played so far, which seems pretty cool.

If you’re keen to give it a go, you’ll be able to pick up the game on April 16 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
