The ‘Uncharted’ Movie Loses Director Shawn Levy To Another Video Game Project

It seems like the Uncharted movie can’t catch a damn break, hitting another major hurdle in its production. Director, Shawn Levy, has left the project for another film which has been greenlit by  20th Century Fox.

As The Hollywood Reporter writes, Levy is off to direct a movie called Free Guy, which means he will be stepping down from his directorial position on the highly anticipated Uncharted film, which is still set to star Tom Holland as a young Nathan Drake. Sony is now searching for a new director to take over.

It’s just another setback for the film, which has been in development for years. The project had already lost three directors, so I’m sure the rest of the team involved is feeling a little exasperated at this point. Written by Blacklist director, Joe Carnahan, the movie is set to be a prequel which takes place before the events of the games.

The new project Levy is working on, Free Guy, is also a video game-inspired film starring Ryan Reynolds, Jodie Comer, and Lil Rel. In terms of plot, it follows the story of a bloke who realises he’s living inside a game and must stop its developers from shutting down the world. As someone who has this thought weekly, I’m interested to learn more about the movie. It begins shooting in April 2019.

Fingers crossed Sony can find someone else to helm the Uncharted film, which seems to be getting further from release every day.
