Tamagotchi, otherwise known as the virtual pet that you played with for two days and then neglected until it died, has made a comeback in its true, 0ld-school form, so that you can neglect it all over again, just like the good old days.

A remake of the original 1997 Tamagotchi was originally released late last year, but if you found it difficult to get your hands on one, then fear not. Per a recent update from JB Hi-Fi, the beloved toy will be making a return in July, and this time, it’s selling for a cool $34.

The first Tamagotchi was released in Japan by Bandai in 1996, before taking the rest of the world by storm the following year. The name is a portmanteau of the Japanese words for “egg” and “watch”, and as of 2017, more than 80 million of them had been sold worldwide.

The first-generation re-releases come in a variety of colours and styles, including Unicorn, Red Glitter, Galaxy, Blue Silver and Mermaid.

“Care for your digital pet and don’t forget to feed it!” says the optimistic sales blurb. We all know that you absolutely will forget to feed it, because that’s just the type of person that you are, but that’s okay, we all know these little guys are here for a good time, not a long time.
