This Thomas The Tank Engine Mod Somehow Makes The ‘RE2’ Remake Way Scarier

Whether you’ve played the recent remake of horror classic, Resident Evil 2, or its original form, you’ll be well aware of the big hulking bastard known as Mr. X (or The Tyrant if we’re talking OG). Welp, it didn’t take long for someone to replace him with Thomas the Tank Engine in the remake.

If you’re not familiar with Mr. X, he’s essentially an enormous grey man with a hat who lurches around Raccoon City Police Department looking to deck you as hard as he can. He cannot be killed, only avoided, so he really brings a sense of dread whenever he appears to fuck you up. I can’t decide whether turning him into a train from a children’s show makes him any less scary and, to be honest, I’m leaning towards no.

It actually started out when a modder known as DJ Pop made a sound pack that swapped Mr. X’s footsteps with train chugs, his song with the Thomas the Tank Engine theme, and his punches with a goddamn steam train whistle. You can see that in action below.

There’s something extremely funny about Leon saying “Jesus Christ!” as Mr. X appears to the sound of the Thomas theme. Unreal. From here, modder, ZombieAli, added an actual model of Thomas which replaces the big grey idiot as we know him.

When combined, the two mods create one helluva presence. Check it out in the tweet below.

An unstoppable Thomas powering through flames is an image I won’t forget anytime soon. It’s not the first mod DJ Pop has made for the game, either. He’s the same bloke who changed Mr. X’s theme song to X Gon’ Give It To Ya by DMX, which is just as great as it sounds.

Check that one out below.

Top notch gear. If you haven’t played it yet, the Resident Evil 2 remake is an absolute masterclass in modernising classic games, so it’s absolutely worth your time. And hey, once you finish it, you can go back and play it with all these oddball mods.
