Popular Battle Royale game PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has had a cheating problem for some time now, and players have had enough of that shit. In fact, according to BattleEye, the number of cheaters has been rising exponentially since the end of 2017, forcing developer PUBG Corp. to ban up to 13 per cent of its players.
The problem’s gotten so bad, the company has been working with Chinese authorities to literally arrest and fine the makers of PUBG hack programs. It recently confirmed that so far, 15 arrests have been made and a whopping $US5.1 million ($6.8 million) worth of fines dished out to offenders. Sucked in.
“As you all now know, we’ve been doing everything possible to root out cheating from PUBG,” the Steam post reads. “The ultimate goal is to create an environment for players that’s completely safe from hackers and cheaters.”
And it turns out those using the scummy cheats probably had their own personal data harvested by the programs.
“Earlier this month, on April 25th, 15 suspects were arrested for developing and selling hacking/cheating programs that affect PUBG,” the post continues. “It was confirmed that malicious code, including Trojan horse software, was included in some of these programs and was used to steal user information.”
Cheating has been a huge bone of contention for PUBG fans, with many deciding to jump into other games like Fortnite rather than play against so many hackers. It’s good to see PUBG Corp. tackling the issue so strongly and we can only hope it finally puts players on an even playing field.
