Another New Pokémon Mobile Game Is Coming If You Don’t Already Have Enough

The Pokémon Company is pumping out another new mobile game at some point between now and next year, and this one won’t probably have anything to do with Pokémon GO given Niantic isn’t involved. This title is coming from DeNA, which is the company behind Nintendo mobile games like Super Mario Run, Fire Emblem Heroes, and Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp.

Discovered as part of DeNA’s latest financial results briefing, the upcoming release is detailed as a “new and exciting smartphone game [to launch] this fiscal year based on the globally popular Pokémon franchise, in partnership with The Pokémon Company”. In other words, you can expect the game to drop before the end of 2020’s first quarter. As the briefing says, more details around the game and its launch will be coming later in the year.

That’s about all we know at this stage, but I’d wager we’ll hear something more at E3 in June or, failing that, Gamescom in August.

Fans of the franchise will also be hanging out for more information on Nintendo’s next mainline entry, Pokémon Sword & Shield, which should have a release date by E3. Set for release on the Nintendo Switch, the RPG will introduce players to a new region along with new Pokémon.

I have no idea what the new mobile game could be, but part of me hopes it’s just a remaster of the classic RPGs for mobile. That would kick ass.
